Last week, Vice President-Elect Biden and I began the process of announcing our economic team. Today, we are pleased to name another key member of this team: our nominee for Secretary of Commerce, my friend, Governor Bill Richardson.

With each passing day, the work our team has begun, developing plans to revive our economy, becomes more urgent. Earlier this week, we learned that the U.S. economy has been in recession since December of 2007 and that our manufacturing output is at a 26 year low -- two stark reminders of the magnitude of the challenges we face.

But while I know rebuilding our economy won’t be easy -- and it won’t happen overnight -- I also know this: right now, somewhere in America, a small business is at work on the next big idea. A scientist is on the cusp of the next breakthrough discovery. An entrepreneur is sketching plans for the startup that will revolutionize an industry. Right now, across America, the finest products in the world are rolling off our assembly lines. And the proudest, most determined, most productive workers in the world are on the job -- some, already on their second shift of the day; many, putting in longer hours than ever before.

After nearly two years traveling across this country, meeting with workers, visiting businesses large and small, I am more confident than ever before that we have everything we need to renew our economy -- we have the ingenuity and technology, the skill and commitment -- we just need to put it to work. It’s time to not just address our immediate economic threats, but to start laying the groundwork for long-term economic prosperity -- to help American businesses grow and thrive at home, and expand our efforts to promote American enterprise around the world.

This work is the core mission of the Secretary of Commerce. And with his breadth and depth of experience in public life, Governor Richardson is uniquely suited for this role as a leading economic diplomat for America.

During his time in state government and Congress, and in two tours of duty in the cabinet, Bill has seen from just about every angle what makes our economy work and what keeps it from working better.

In the photo above, I blotted out some information, is the paperwork, warning red papers, as part of voting in Lake Havasu City, Arizona without adequate ID.

I just got back from voting and all I can say is Jack Cafferty of CNN was right. When I asked I was told he didn't know what he was talking about. As usual Jack Cafferty was right. The ID law is designed to discourage 'little old ladies' who don't drive from voting.

We are truly second class citizens who can only cast a provisional ballot and hope it's counted. There are folks without ID who didn't bother.

I have to say it again. Voting for Barack Obama and Joe Biden, priceless.

Why I'm Voting For Barack Obama For President

The boxes I fit into are Christian, Black, female, over 54, computerized, independent, hippie American.

I've been accused of supporting Barack Obama for president because of his race. We've already had at least 5 Black presidents, Jefferson, Jackson, Lincoln, Harding and Coolidge, according to Dr. Leroy Vaughn, MD, MBA and historian, in his book BLACK PEOPLE AND THEIR PLACE IN WORLD HISTORY.

I assure you that race is not a deciding factor in who I am supporting for the position of President of the United States. I have a history of voting for White men in past presidential elections. Race was not a factor then, and it's not a factor now.

The position of president, especially in this, the final step in the transformation from the Industrial Age to the Information Age, cleaning this mess up, is a job way too important to judge based on race.

I am voting for Obama because of:

Obama's sponsorship of industrial hemp and statement that he will not jail sick people for using hemp.

Obama is computer literate.

Obama was not a spokesman for the Iraq war.

Obama is pro choice and not in favor of sending women back to coat hangers.

Obama is not a long time member in good standing of the industrial/military/congressional complex, responsible for 9/11 as an inside job. At the time Obama was not part of the federal government.

McCain would not even talk with a hunger striker Blair Gadsby outside his Phoenix office about the events of 9/11.

When I called McCain's office about World Trade Center Illness shortly after 9/11, I was told Sen. Clinton was handling it. That was a lie for years.

Are Senators Clinton and McCain qualified to be president?

I'm still reading people I love talking about Hillary Clinton for president. I don't get it. Anyone who is still considering Hillary Clinton or John McCain as president should take a closer look at their records regarding 9/11, the greatest test of our nation in this century, though Katrina, wild fires and the Mississippi floods are testing our metal too.

When it comes to the industrial/military/congressional complex, Senator McCain's got two of the three covered and his wife has the third. I live in Arizona. I'm not voting for Senator John McCain.

I believe it's time to follow Dwight Eisenhower's advice. To survive we must take control of our nation out of the hands of the industrial/military/congressional complex, with their toxic fuels and foods, and fix our problems now, before it's too late. Any strategy that includes a 100 year war is not one that is going to work.

I've been frustrated for years at Senator Clinton's failures in leadership during this 9/11 era. At the beginning of this crisis I expected her to call for an independent investigation; get the funds to evacuate people in the City exposed to the toxic soup called World Trade Center Dust (hemp legalization and tax would finance the process); open her office for information to help folks be safer in toxic environments; make pro-active medical attention available for those who need it dealing with World Trade Center Illness; and demand justice for those responsible.

I left 10 NY years ago when I realized the state was being run by the politically appointed via stolen elections (like zero votes for Obama in 80 Districts in New York, many in Harlem)

Has she yet called for an investigation into the 9/11 Truth movement which has documented thermite, a sign of explosives used, in the WTC dust?

9/13/01 is when the head of the EPA said the air was safe to breathe and the water safe to drink. She should have been their champion demanding military style respirators, ample food and rest areas, etc. for those working on the pile.

People who were there have reported that they knew the EPA was lying but they were too busy working at Ground Zero.

Did she slap the EPA for lying about the dangers in the dust either then or later when it came out that the White House altered the EPA's 9/11 report? Though the city's sewers keeps air quality checks going because they are open, we were told only EPA data was available. She did not demand to see the City air quality numbers to double check EPA data, like when she signed onto this war.

How could she have not known that exposure to toxic chemicals can kill people?

After years of her ineffective strategy of study the problem, rather than take an active role in reducing the effects of World Trade Center Illness (registry vs. health care), she's now getting help for on site workers. But what about the people who live and work in the area? Many are already dead. Sick people have marched on Washington for attention since their representatives (not just Senator Clinton) failed to represent THEM in D.C. by delivering solutions to the problems New Yorkers face.

Senator Clinton was elected to do a job...represent NY in the Senate. The senate controls a lot of power, which could have been used to clean up the area (they are still finding body parts in the area as of this year).

NRDC has estimated that there were approximately 50,000 pc's in the World Trade Center with 4 lbs of lead each. 50,000 X 4 = 200,000 lbs of lead just from the pc's. Office furniture, fabrics and human remains were transformed into dust in the time it took for the two towers to fall. Rescue workers report that they didn't find a computer, desk or chair.

The area is not cleaned yet, not even in the homes because asbestos does not wash out in the laundry.

The senate also has the ability to call for a vetted investigation into what really happened on 9/11. 19 lucky Arabs who just happened to pick the day when the military was engaged in war games is not standing up to the truth. Instead we got the 9/11 Commission report which speaks loud and long but says nothing.

Please check out Senator Clinton's activities on and after 9/11. The toxic dust spread all over the place and did not stop at 14th Street as reported. Is it possible she did not know that paper from the WTC was found on Long Island, yet the government said the dust stopped on 14th Street. The city was put on lock down. Why was she not on the phone with the call GET THOSE PEOPLE OUT OF THERE!!!!?

Why was there not one aircraft carrier with the ability to respond to a crisis paying attention to protecting New York, Washington, Pennsylvania...? How is this O.K. with her since the senate helps appropriate and approve the military budget?

Based on her response to 9/11 so far, I don't think Senator Clinton is qualified to be president yet.

By the way, when I contacted Senator Clinton at the time I was told that she only responds to material from New York and contact my senator. I did and was told IF there was a problem Senators Clinton and Schumer would handle it and they said nothing. Since they don't to listen to me, I've been posting initially on the New York Times site Abuzz and over the years I've put up notes on the subject of World Trade Center Illness at www.geocities.com/cureworks2. Still haven't heard from her.

I'm voting for Senator Obama as the next president. With the 5% Black blood rule, which use to be enough to get a person lynched, we've already had 5 Black Presidents, Jefferson, Jackson, Lincoln, Harding and Coolidge according to Dr. Leroy Vaughn, MD, MBA, Historian were Black. A recent letter to the editor asked for evidence of my claims regarding the tragedy of 9/11. Below I present some points that are presently known. I won’t be able to convince anyone who doesn’t want to be convinced, but for those who are willing to deal with factual evidence, consider the following:

• 37 different people reported explosions in the basement of the World Trade Center Towers before the first plane hit, and seismic equipment recorded both the explosions and the impacts. In addition, people were injured by the explosions in the basement, providing well-documented evidence. Yet this evidence is ignored.

•The media and government have promoted the “pancake theory” as the cause of the collapse of the Twin Towers — that is, fire weakened the steel support beams, causing the upper floors to collapse. Then the weight of the collapsing floors above caused the floors below to collapse. This theory is not consistent with scientific principles or the facts. Frank Legge, who has a doctorate in chemistry, and Tony Szamboti, a mechanical engineer, reported in December in the Journal of 9/11 Studies: “It appears therefore that the official concept of a free-fall collapse of the upper portion through the initiation story, due to heat effects from fire, is a fantasy. If the temperature did become high enough for collapse to occur” — and everyone agrees that it did not — “it could not have happened in the observed manner. In particular it could not have been sudden and thus could not have produced the velocity, and hence the momentum and kinetic energy, upon which the official story depends for the second stage of collapse.”

• The theory that the buildings collapsed due to controlled-demolition explosives, however, is consistent with scientific principles and the facts. The “demolition” theory, in fact, is the only one which scientists have been able to corroborate. That is, “… all observations are in accord with the use of explosives in a time sequence.” (Legge and Szamboti, December, Journal of 9/11 Studies.)

• Peer-reviewed reports indicate that the masses of dust particles created by the disaster contained tiny pieces of metal that had been exposed to both extreme temperatures (higher than could have been produced by a burning office or burning airplane fuel) and extreme pressure (such as an explosion) that would fragment material into minute particles. Official reports ignore this.

• In December, physicist Steven Jones announced the discovery of thermite chips in World Trade Center dust samples. The chemical composition of these chips are an exact match to known thermite samples used in controlled demolitions — further corroboration that explosive devices were involved.

• Steel support beams recovered from the site of the World Trade Center exhibit cut edges that are characteristic of thermite used to slice steel support beams in building demolitions but are not characteristic of steel beams that have been burned in a fire.

When the 9/11 Commission Report was finally released, it was woefully inadequate. It never even addressed the collapse of Building 7, for example. Former FBI Director Louis Freeh has stated that there are inaccuracies in the report and unanswered questions. Even the two chairmen of the 9/11 Commission — Thomas Kean and Lee Hamilton — have accused the CIA of “obstructing” the commission, and one commissioner, U.S. Sen. Max Cleland, resigned, stating that the commission was “compromised.”

Private individuals with specialized knowledge — scientists, engineers, architects, demolitions experts, and the firefighters and police officers who were on the scene on Sept. 11, 2001, have tested theories, constructed models, provided testimony, and dug for the truth about what really happened on 9/11. They have been ignored by media and the government.

The mainstream media parrot the less-than-credible conclusions of the 9/11 Commission without giving any thought to the many omissions and inconsistencies. In a truly free country, the press would ask hard questions and do real investigating, but this is not happening. Only the alternative media, such as Internet news sites, have done any solid investigating.

The events of 9/11 led immediately to the creation of the Department of Homeland Security and passage of the Patriot Act (what double-speak), both of which deprive us of Constitutional rights and have brought us to the brink of becoming a police state. Homeland Security is currently trying to force a national ID card down our throats, although some governors have politely (or not so politely) told Secretary Michael Chertoff where he can go.

If we’re going to sacrifice our freedom, there ought to be a very good reason, and we have a right to know what that is. It isn’t enough for government to say, “Trust me.” It’s way past time for Congress to authorize an independent investigation of 9/11 that will consider the mass of new evidence that has been gathered in the past seven years. The longer they stall, the more suspicions grow.

I'm sorry but based on her response to the continuing 9/11 World Trade Center Illness crisis, I don't think Senator Hillary Clinton is effective.
She said on 9/11 "We are going to support the president." Not we are going to support New Yorkers and others exposed. Based on results, she chose a medical strategy of study rather than be proactive.
The result, both first responders and citizens have marched on Washington for help dealing with this crisis.
Is her support of the President Bush why she was silent when the EPA said the air was safe to breathe and the water safe to drink?

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
PROPOSING THE DISSOLUTION OF THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA IF CERTAIN CONDITIONS OCCUR.

Whereas, on July 4, 1776, our founding fathers proclaimed that the people had the right to alter or abolish their government and declared thirteen British colonies to be free and independent, or sovereign, states; and

Whereas, on March 1, 1781, the thirteen states formed a central government they called the United States of America under a charter known as the Articles of Confederation and Perpetual Union, which stated that "each state retains its sovereignty, freedom and independence"; and
Whereas, on September 17, 1787, the leaders of the Continental Congress signed the present Constitution of the United States, which was then transmitted to the thirteen states for ratification and the formation of a new central government; and

Whereas, several of the states delayed ratification of the Constitution and three states made clear their position regarding sovereignty by stating that "the powers of government may be resumed by the people whensoever it shall become necessary to their happiness"; and
Whereas, eventually all thirteen of the independent states ratified the Constitution of the United States and joined the new Union, while retaining their sovereignty as states. The states made the new central government sovereign only to the extent that the states delegated to it limited and specific powers; and

Whereas, the Constitution of the United States is merely a treaty among sovereigns, and under treaty law when one party violates the treaty the other parties are automatically released from further adherence to it unless they wish to continue; and

Whereas, the fifty current principals, or signatories, to the treaty have done well in honoring and obeying it, yet the federal agent has, for decades, violated it in both word and spirit. The many violations of the Constitution of the United States by the federal government include disposing of federal property without the approval of Congress, usurping jurisdiction from the states in such matters as abortion and firearms rights and seeking control of public lands within state borders; and

Whereas, under Article V, Constitution of the United States, three-fourths of the states may abolish the federal government. In the alternative, if the states choose to exercise their inherent right as sovereigns, fewer than thirty-eight states may lawfully choose to ignore Article V, Constitution of the United States, and establish a new federal government for themselves by following the precedent established by Article VII, Constitution of the United States, in which nine of the existing thirteen states dissolved the existing Union under the Articles of Confederation and automatically superceded the Articles.

Therefore

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of Arizona, the Senate concurring:

1. That when or if the President of the United States, the Congress of the United States or any other federal agent or agency declares the Constitution of the United States to be suspended or abolished, if the President or any other federal entity attempts to institute martial law or its equivalent without an official declaration in one or more of the states without the consent of that state or if any federal order attempts to make it unlawful for individual Americans to own firearms or to confiscate firearms, the State of Arizona, when joined by thirty-four of the other fifty states, declares as follows: that the states resume all state powers delegated by the Constitution of the United States and assume total sovereignty; that the states re-ratify and re-establish the present Constitution of the United States as the charter for the formation of a new federal government, to be followed by the election of a new Congress and President and the reorganization of a new judiciary, similarly following the precedent and procedures of the founding fathers; that individual members of the military return to their respective states and report to the Governor until a new President is elected; that each state assume a negotiated, prorated share of the national debt; that all land within the borders of a state belongs to the state until sold or ceded to the central government by the state's Legislature and Governor; and that once thirty-five states have agreed to form a new government, each of the remaining fifteen be permitted to join the new confederation on application.

2. That the Secretary of State of the State of Arizona transmit copies of this Resolution to the President of the United States, the President of the United States Senate, the Speaker of the United States House of Representatives and each Member of Congress from the State of Arizona.

Elitist? Clinton Over $100 million - Obama $1.3 million Net Worth

Senator Clinton recently charged Senator Obama with being an elitist. Is she kidding? The net financial worth between them speaks volumes.

How in touch was Senator Clinton with the people of New York when the buildings were exploded and the city was put on lock down? Check CNN for a list of what she did on 9/11. If she was so in touch, why did she not stand up to the EPA when they lied about the dangers in the dust?

During the debate season, former VP candidate John Edwards brought up that the average Black person has a net worth of 10% that of the average White person.

What was not said, was when Black folks work to do extraordinary things with their lives, the number is much lower.

For example. Oprah's net worth according to Forbes Magazine on page 8 of the list is $2.5 billion . Bill Gates net worth is $59 billion. Two humans who worked hard, rose to the top of their fields, and collected their money. Oprah is worth less than 5% of Bill Gates.

The Clinton's reported over $100 million in income. The Obamas net worth is listed at $1.3 million. Less than 5% or what the prosperity books call a poor millionaire.

Just an observation that Senator Barack Obama's income and ideas places him closer to the average American than the Clintons. People are mad and are holding onto our faith and guns as we straighten things out. Obama just told the truth. After all, he did not support the Iraq War at any time.

Senator Clinton, when you point a finger at someone, there are 3 pointing back at you.
1. She has a lot more vested in money than Senator Obama.
2. She failed to adequately address what happened on 9/11.
3. She voted for the Iraq and upcoming Iran wars.

Senator Clinton's 9/11 Call - How'd She Do?

How dare Senator Hillary Clinton bring up the subject of a 3 a.m. call. All this time later and that question still haunts me.

While researching what Senator Clinton did on 9/11, I can’t find much.

Not even a search on NY1 for “Clinton” on 9/11/01 revealed anything.

CNN’s Chronology of Terror has no listing for anything she did that day.

I did find a statement Senator Clinton made on 9/12 about 9/11. It’s posted on her site. The text is also below. I’ve added my ideas and questions.

Please read her statement, especially if you are considering voting for her to answer the phone at 3:00 A.M.

I’ve put my notes/questions in brackets and italics. Parts that jumped out at me of Senator Clinton’s statements are in bold. I’ve changed only the paragraph structure to aid in our communication.

“Thank you, Mr. President, and I thank my colleagues for their outpouring of support, their concerns and their many offers of additional aid that have come to the rescue of our people as a result of this devastating travesty.”

[Note: New York City was on lockdown at 9:21a. The south tower did not fall until 10:05 a.m. Folks could not escape. The toxins from the crashing planes should have been motivation enough to evacuate. The people were left without food and water to fend for themselves as stores rapidly ran out of supplies.

The hole got cleaned up, but the surrounding area did not.

Despite the Senator and other’s claims, it’s logical to assume that since a piece of paper made it to Long Island from the exploded WTC, the toxic dust traveled much farther than the reported 14th Street.]

“You know, yesterday dawned a beautiful day in New York. My daughter told me that it was one of those days where the skies were totally clear and there was a breeze and people were starting to line up at the polling places to vote because it was primary day, election day -- a continuation of the commitment to democracy and self-government that has set us apart from every society that has ever existed because of the longevity of our democracy and the will of our people to constantly renew ourselves. New Yorkers went from standing in line to vote to standing in line to donate blood in just a few hours. I don't think any of us will get out of our minds the images that we saw on television of the plane going into the first tower, the plane going into the second tower, the plane going into the Pentagon.”

[Note: The pentagon footage of the plane going into the building was not available by the 12th. If she was that much in the Pentagon loop, then she knew the military was scheduled for their annual war games to begin at 8:30a on 9/11.]

“But there were tens of thousands of our fellow Americans, people that live in New York and New Jersey and Connecticut -- people literally from every part of our country and indeed the world for whom this was not an event that they watched in horror on television, but they lived through and in too many instances did not survive.”

[Note: From the beginning Senator Clinton knew regular folks were in danger, and failed, if she did anything, to get New Yorkers out of harms way from the toxic soup that’s creating World Trade Center Illness.]

“We are beginning to find out what that was like. Chuck and I have a lot of friends who worked in those towers, worked in the center, worked near by. We are hearing the stories of husbands and wives grabbing cell phones and calling home to say I love you, good-bye. We know and I am sure every person in this body and in the House and many, many of our fellow citizens, when we finally know the names of those killed and injured, will know someone. This was an attack on New York, but it was really an attack on America. I have been very gratified, as I know that Chuck has and all our colleagues in the House by the strong support we have received from the President, and I am very grateful. We have expressed our appreciation.”

[Note: What support was she talking about that she received from the President? Did New Yorkers get checks to help them deal with it? How did she express her appreciation to the number one suspect of 9/11 as an inside job? Why did she not call for an investigation into what happened before she started licking the Presidents ***** in public when the nation was in shock.]

“Chuck and I will be going to New York this afternoon with FEMA.”

[Note: Since she went with FEMA on the afternoon of the 12th to New York, did she have knowledge they were traveling with forged test results to be presented as fact on the 13th. Did she ask for a confirmation of the test results from any of the areas open sewers who take regular readings of air quality. When the EPA lied and said the air was safe to breathe and the water safe to drink, did Senator Clinton challenge Whitman?]

“We could not have asked for more than we have received in the immediate aftermath of this horrific attack. But we are by no means anywhere near the end of what it will take to continue the search and rescue efforts. We are finding people even as we speak. Yet we know that there is a very grim task ahead to do everything we can to find every person, to account for every single person who went to work. That is all they did: they went to work, on a beautiful September day in New York.”

[Note: Years later the city is still finding bone fragments of WTC victims who died on 9/11/01. The death toll from World Trade Center Illness is still rising with the potential to reach pandemic numbers over the next 15 years.]

“We will also stand united behind our President as he and his advisors plan the necessary actions to demonstrate America's resolve and commitment.”

[Note: Is the above a statement of blind faith in the Bush Administration? Did she have faith and ask us to have faith in “the necessary actions to demonstrate America's resolve and commitment. Resolve and commitment to what? WAR?]

“Not only to seek out an exact punishment on the perpetrators, but to make very clear that not only those who harbor terrorists, but those who in any way aid or comfort them whatsoever will now face the wrath of our country. And I hope that that message has gotten through to everywhere it needs to be heard. You are either with America in our time of need or you are not.”

[Note: “You are either with America in our time of need or you are not.” Does that sound like a wise international policy in crisis situations? Shouldn’t we work on policy the promotes us all prospering and getting along, even if it’s just along side of each other.]

“We also stand united behind our resolve -- as this resolution so clearly states -- to recover and rebuild in the aftermath of these tragic acts. You know, New York was not an accidental choice for these madmen, these terrorists, and these instruments of evil. They deliberately chose to strike at a city, which is a global city -- it is the city of the Twenty First century, it epitomizes who we are as Americans. And so this in a very real sense was an attack on America, on our values, on our power, and on who we are as a people.”

[Note: How did she know what kind of attack it was before the dust even cleared and the evidence collected?]

“And I know -- because I know America -- that America will stand behind New York. That America will offer whatever resources, aid, comfort, support that New Yorkers and New York require. Because the greatest rebuke we can offer to those who attack our way of life is to demonstrate clearly that we are not cowed in any way whatsoever.”

[Note: How well has America stood behind New York? Is New York blessed or damned to the toxins from the WTC? Why did the first responders have to march on Washington to try to get medical help? And what about the folks who worked and lived in the area? Where’s their health care? Why is there no talk of reparations for folks exposed to WTC dust and are dealing with health issues as a result?]

“I hope that within a short period, Senator Warner, we will see scaffolding on the sides of the Pentagon after we finish the search and recovery work that is being carried out heroically. I hope we all see a clear signal that we are rebuilding and our defenses are more resolute than ever. I hope similarly that lower Manhattan has the same kind of image of project because the reality will be that we are rebuilding and reconstructing and making clear that just as our military might is unchallenged and un-cowed so is our economics, our social, our political values epitomized by New York.”

[Note: It’s 2008. Are our defenses more resolute or stretched thinner than ever? The American Gulf War Veterans Association reports the real death toll in Iraq is 70,000 American soldiers and a million Iraqi citizens when one counts the deaths from depleted uranium. Is lower Manhattan cleaned up or rebuilt? Is our military might unchallenged and un-cowed? Are our economics, our social, our political values epitomized by New York?]

I have expressed my strong support for the President. Not only as the Senator from New York, but as someone for eight years who has some sense of the burdens and responsibilities that fall on the shoulders of the human being we make our President. It is an awesome and an oftentimes awful responsibility for any person. I know we are up to it. I know we are ready for it.

[Note: Is having strong support for the president a clue as to how she will choose her advisors, what she looks for in people she supports? Is this an out clause in case she is not ready on day one?]

And I know every one in this body represents every American in making clear we are united and stronger than ever. So it is with a heavy heart, really a sense of heartbreak that I rise today in support of this resolution.

But it is also with a great sense of pride. First in the people of New York who responded as New Yorkers always do when times get tough. There was not a sense of panic, there was order, and there was an immediate outpouring of help.

[Note: If there was no sense of panic and there was order, why did she not demand an orderly evacuation underground of the City of New York? Breathing the toxic dust was the best decision that could be made?]

And those men and women we sent in to rescue our fellow Americans -- there is no way adequately to express our gratitude. To our firefighters, our police officers, our emergency personal, our doctors, and nurses and medical personnel. They responded at a height of a tragic, unexpected attack with the kind of grit and courage we expect from New Yorkers. And to all of those who are missing a loved one, there are no words any of us can express, except to tell you in the clearest possible terms we will -- in a united American response -- support you, offer assistance to you, stand with you, and pursue those who reached deep into your family homes yesterday and took someone you loved away from you.

There will be a lot of work ahead of us in this body and in the House and we will pursue that and I am grateful for the support we have received.

Senator Clinton’s response to the 9/11 call she received as New York’s Senator produced none of the life supporting needs of the people of her state. She left it in the hands of, based on results, incompetents, and people are dying as a result.

My friend, Albert Davis, who volunteered at Ground Zero wrote in his book about his experiences there GETTING TO GROUND ZERO that safety gear was hard to come by at ground zero.

Her strategy of funding Medicine, Inc. to study the problem of World Trade Center Illness rather than promoting the danger and possible solutions in the early days was folly. All these years later and still no official effective strategy to help folks deal with the trauma.

In summary, please consider how Senator Clinton answered the 9/11 call as a model for how she will answer the 3 a.m. call.

1. When the planes were headed toward NYC, was she even notified or did she get notified like the rest of us?
2. When notified, did she know the military was on stand down at their annual “war games” called Vigilant Guardian? Did she not know New York was unprotected on that day (games scheduled for a week)?
3. What was Senator Clinton doing on 9/11? Delivering resources like respirators, food and water?
4. When the buildings were exploded, did she help order an evacuation of New York, or did she allow the stupid “lock down” strategy to stand, exposing millions to toxins?
5. On 9/13, when the EPA lied that the air and water were safe, did Senator Clinton stand up to Whitman?
6. When it came out that the White House told the EPA to lie, did she bring the liars to justice for endangering lives?
7. Why is it that the first responders, who are now getting sick and dying, had to recently march on Washington for funding for medical care? The first person to die from WTC Illness was a citizen, not a first responder.
8. What about the independent citizens, whose jobs and living conditions forced many to stay in the area. Many have lost their jobs and lives because they are sick, have no real champion speaking for them, not even their senator? What about the other victims of the war on terror, like the innocent people of Iraq whose lives have been torn asunder even years after no weapons of mass destruction were found?
9. What about looking into 9/11 as an inside job? Lord knows they (the president and his administration, greedy people) had motive (failed presidency and greed), opportunity (military on stand down, control of the media and the targets), and benefited most from the commission of the crime, not act of terror, crime.

If you know Senator Clinton and can ask her only one question, ask her how many respirators, how much food and water she got to New Yorkers and others exposed when they really needed it?

"We the people, in order to form a more perfect union."

Two hundred and twenty one years ago, in a hall that still stands across the street, a group of men gathered and, with these simple words, launched America's improbable experiment in democracy.

Farmers and scholars; statesmen and patriots who had traveled across an ocean to escape tyranny and persecution finally made real their declaration of independence at a Philadelphia convention that lasted through the spring of 1787. The document they produced was eventually signed but ultimately unfinished.

It was stained by this nation's original sin of slavery, a question that divided the colonies and brought the convention to a stalemate until the founders chose to allow the slave trade to continue for at least twenty more years, and to leave any final resolution to future generations.

Of course, the answer to the slavery question was already embedded within our Constitution – a Constitution that had at is very core the ideal of equal citizenship under the law; a Constitution that promised its people liberty, and justice, and a union that could be and should be perfected over time.

And yet words on a parchment would not be enough to deliver slaves from bondage, or provide men and women of every color and creed their full rights and obligations as citizens of the United States.

What would be needed were Americans in successive generations who were willing to do their part – through protests and struggle, on the streets and in the courts, through a civil war and civil disobedience and always at great risk - to narrow that gap between the promise of our ideals and the reality of their time.

This was one of the tasks we set forth at the beginning of this campaign – to continue the long march of those who came before us, a march for a more just, more equal, more free, more caring and more prosperous America.

I chose to run for the presidency at this moment in history because I believe deeply that we cannot solve the challenges of our time unless we solve them together – unless we perfect our union by understanding that we may have different stories, but we hold common hopes; that we may not look the same and we may not have come from the same place, but we all want to move in the same direction – towards a better future for our children and our grandchildren.

This belief comes from my unyielding faith in the decency and generosity of the American people. But it also comes from my own American story.

I am the son of a black man from Kenya and a white woman from Kansas. I was raised with the help of a white grandfather who survived a Depression to serve in Patton's Army during World War II and a white grandmother who worked on a bomber assembly line at Fort Leavenworth while he was overseas.

I've gone to some of the best schools in America and lived in one of the world's poorest nations.

I am married to a black American who carries within her the blood of slaves and slave owners – an inheritance we pass on to our two precious daughters.

I have brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, uncles and cousins, of every race and every hue, scattered across three continents, and for as long as I live, I will never forget that in no other country on Earth is my story even possible.

It's a story that hasn't made me the most conventional candidate. But it is a story that has seared into my genetic makeup the idea that this nation is more than the sum of its parts – that out of many, we are truly one.

Throughout the first year of this campaign, against all predictions to the contrary, we saw how hungry the American people were for this message of unity.

Despite the temptation to view my candidacy through a purely racial lens, we won commanding victories in states with some of the whitest populations in the country. In South Carolina, where the Confederate Flag still flies, we built a powerful coalition of African Americans and white Americans.

This is not to say that race has not been an issue in the campaign.

At various stages in the campaign, some commentators have deemed me either "too black" or "not black enough." We saw racial tensions bubble to the surface during the week before the South Carolina primary. The press has scoured every exit poll for the latest evidence of racial polarization, not just in terms of white and black, but black and brown as well.

And yet, it has only been in the last couple of weeks that the discussion of race in this campaign has taken a particularly divisive turn.

On one end of the spectrum, we've heard the implication that my candidacy is somehow an exercise in affirmative action; that it's based solely on the desire of wide-eyed liberals to purchase racial reconciliation on the cheap.

On the other end, we've heard my former pastor, Reverend Jeremiah Wright, use incendiary language to express views that have the potential not only to widen the racial divide, but views that denigrate both the greatness and the goodness of our nation; that rightly offend white and black alike.

I have already condemned, in unequivocal terms, the statements of Reverend Wright that have caused such controversy.

For some, nagging questions remain. Did I know him to be an occasionally fierce critic of American domestic and foreign policy? Of course.

Did I ever hear him make remarks that could be considered controversial while I sat in church? Yes.

Did I strongly disagree with many of his political views? Absolutely – just as I'm sure many of you have heard remarks from your pastors, priests, or rabbis with which you strongly disagreed.

But the remarks that have caused this recent firestorm weren't simply controversial. They weren't simply a religious leader's effort to speak out against perceived injustice.

Instead, they expressed a profoundly distorted view of this country – a view that sees white racism as endemic, and that elevates what is wrong with America above all that we know is right with America; a view that sees the conflicts in the Middle East as rooted primarily in the actions of stalwart allies like Israel, instead of emanating from the perverse and hateful ideologies of radical Islam.

As such, Reverend Wright's comments were not only wrong but divisive, divisive at a time when we need unity; racially charged at a time when we need to come together to solve a set of monumental problems – two wars, a terrorist threat, a falling economy, a chronic health care crisis and potentially devastating climate change; problems that are neither black or white or Latino or Asian, but rather problems that confront us all.

Given my background, my politics, and my professed values and ideals, there will no doubt be those for whom my statements of condemnation are not enough. Why associate myself with Reverend Wright in the first place, they may ask? Why not join another church?

And I confess that if all that I knew of Reverend Wright were the snippets of those sermons that have run in an endless loop on the television and You Tube, or if Trinity United Church of Christ conformed to the caricatures being peddled by some commentators, there is no doubt that I would react in much the same way.

But the truth is, that isn't all that I know of the man.

The man I met more than twenty years ago is a man who helped introduce me to my Christian faith, a man who spoke to me about our obligations to love one another; to care for the sick and lift up the poor.

He is a man who served his country as a U.S. Marine; who has studied and lectured at some of the finest universities and seminaries in the country, and who for over thirty years led a church that serves the community by doing God's work here on Earth – by housing the homeless, ministering to the needy, providing day care services and scholarships and prison ministries, and reaching out to those suffering from HIV/AIDS.

In my first book, Dreams From My Father, I described the experience of my first service at Trinity:

"People began to shout, to rise from their seats and clap and cry out, a forceful wind carrying the reverend's voice up into the rafters….And in that single note – hope! – I heard something else; at the foot of that cross, inside the thousands of churches across the city, I imagined the stories of ordinary black people merging with the stories of David and Goliath, Moses and Pharaoh, the Christians in the lion's den, Ezekiel's field of dry bones.

Those stories – of survival, and freedom, and hope – became our story, my story; the blood that had spilled was our blood, the tears our tears; until this black church, on this bright day, seemed once more a vessel carrying the story of a people into future generations and into a larger world.

Our trials and triumphs became at once unique and universal, Black and more than Black; in chronicling our journey, the stories and songs gave us a means to reclaim memories that we didn't need to feel shame about…memories that all people might study and cherish – and with which we could start to rebuild."

That has been my experience at Trinity.

Like other predominantly Black churches across the country, Trinity embodies the Black community in its entirety – the doctor and the welfare mom, the model student and the former gang-banger.

Like other Black churches, Trinity's services are full of raucous laughter and sometimes bawdy humor. They are full of dancing, clapping, screaming and shouting that may seem jarring to the untrained ear.

The church contains in full the kindness and cruelty, the fierce intelligence and the shocking ignorance, the struggles and successes, the love and yes, the bitterness and bias that make up the Black experience in America.

And this helps explain, perhaps, my relationship with Reverend Wright.

As imperfect as he may be, he has been like family to me. He strengthened my faith, officiated my wedding, and baptized my children.

Not once in my conversations with him have I heard him talk about any ethnic group in derogatory terms, or treat Whites with whom he interacted with anything but courtesy and respect.

He contains within him the contradictions – the good and the bad – of the community that he has served diligently for so many years.

I can no more disown him than I can disown the black community.

I can no more disown him than I can my White grandmother – a woman who helped raise me, a woman who sacrificed again and again for me, a woman who loves me as much as she loves anything in this world, but a woman who once confessed her fear of Black men who passed by her on the street, and who on more than one occasion has uttered racial or ethnic stereotypes that made me cringe.

These people are a part of me. And they are a part of America, this country that I love.

Some will see this as an attempt to justify or excuse comments that are simply inexcusable. I can assure you it is not.

I suppose the politically safe thing would be to move on from this episode and just hope that it fades into the woodwork.

We can dismiss Reverend Wright as a crank or a demagogue, just as some have dismissed Geraldine Ferraro, in the aftermath of her recent statements, as harboring some deep-seated racial bias.

But race is an issue that I believe this nation cannot afford to ignore right now.

We would be making the same mistake that Reverend Wright made in his offending sermons about America – to simplify and stereotype and amplify the negative to the point that it distorts reality.

The fact is that the comments that have been made and the issues that have surfaced over the last few weeks reflect the complexities of race in this country that we've never really worked through – a part of our union that we have yet to perfect.

And if we walk away now, if we simply retreat into our respective corners, we will never be able to come together and solve challenges like health care, or education, or the need to find good jobs for every American.

Understanding this reality requires a reminder of how we arrived at this point. As William Faulkner once wrote, "The past isn't dead and buried. In fact, it isn't even past."

We do not need to recite here the history of racial injustice in this country. But we do need to remind ourselves that so many of the disparities that exist in the African-American community today can be directly traced to inequalities passed on from an earlier generation that suffered under the brutal legacy of slavery and Jim Crow. Segregated schools were, and are, inferior schools; we still haven't fixed them, fifty years after Brown v. Board of Education, and the inferior education they provided, then and now, helps explain the pervasive achievement gap between today's black and white students.

Legalized discrimination - where Blacks were prevented, often through violence, from owning property, or loans were not granted to African-American business owners, or Black homeowners could not access FHA mortgages, or Blacks were excluded from unions, or the police force, or fire departments – meant that Black families could not amass any meaningful wealth to bequeath to future generations.

That history helps explain the wealth and income gap between Black and White, and the concentrated pockets of poverty that persists in so many of today's urban and rural communities.

A lack of economic opportunity among Black men, and the shame and frustration that came from not being able to provide for one's family, contributed to the erosion of Black families – a problem that welfare policies for many years may have worsened.

And the lack of basic services in so many urban Black neighborhoods – parks for kids to play in, police walking the beat, regular garbage pick-up and building code enforcement – all helped create a cycle of violence, blight and neglect that continue to haunt us.

This is the reality in which Reverend Wright and other African-Americans of his generation grew up. They came of age in the late fifties and early sixties, a time when segregation was still the law of the land and opportunity was systematically constricted.

What's remarkable is not how many failed in the face of discrimination, but rather how many men and women overcame the odds; how many were able to make a way out of no way for those like me who would come after them.

But for all those who scratched and clawed their way to get a piece of the American Dream, there were many who didn't make it – those who were ultimately defeated, in one way or another, by discrimination.

That legacy of defeat was passed on to future generations – those young men and increasingly young women who we see standing on street corners or languishing in our prisons, without hope or prospects for the future.

Even for those Blacks who did make it, questions of race, and racism, continue to define their world view in fundamental ways. For the men and women of Reverend Wright's generation, the memories of humiliation and doubt and fear have not gone away; nor has the anger and the bitterness of those years.

That anger may not get expressed in public, in front of White co-workers or White friends. But it does find voice in the barbershop or around the kitchen table. At times, that anger is exploited by politicians, to gin up votes along racial lines, or to make up for a politician's own failings.

And occasionally it finds voice in the church on Sunday morning, in the pulpit and in the pews. The fact that so many people are surprised to hear that anger in some of Reverend Wright's sermons simply reminds us of the old truism that the most segregated hour in American life occurs on Sunday morning.

That anger is not always productive; indeed, all too often it distracts attention from solving real problems; it keeps us from squarely facing our own complicity in our condition, and prevents the African-American community from forging the alliances it needs to bring about real change.

But the anger is real; it is powerful; and to simply wish it away, to condemn it without understanding its roots, only serves to widen the chasm of misunderstanding that exists between the races.

In fact, a similar anger exists within segments of the White community. Most working - and middle-class White Americans don't feel that they have been particularly privileged by their race. Their experience is the immigrant experience – as far as they're concerned, no one's handed them anything, they've built it from scratch. They've worked hard all their lives, many times only to see their jobs shipped overseas or their pension dumped after a lifetime of labor.

They are anxious about their futures, and feel their dreams slipping away; in an era of stagnant wages and global competition, opportunity comes to be seen as a zero sum game, in which your dreams come at my expense.

So when they are told to bus their children to a school across town; when they hear that an African American is getting an advantage in landing a good job or a spot in a good college because of an injustice that they themselves never committed; when they're told that their fears about crime in urban neighborhoods are somehow prejudiced, resentment builds over time.

Like the anger within the Black community, these resentments aren't always expressed in polite company. But they have helped shape the political landscape for at least a generation.

Anger over welfare and affirmative action helped forge the Reagan Coalition. Politicians routinely exploited fears of crime for their own electoral ends. Talk show hosts and conservative commentators built entire careers unmasking bogus claims of racism while dismissing legitimate discussions of racial injustice and inequality as mere political correctness or reverse racism.

Just as Black anger often proved counterproductive, so have these White resentments distracted attention from the real culprits of the middle class squeeze – a corporate culture rife with inside dealing, questionable accounting practices, and short-term greed; a Washington dominated by lobbyists and special interests; economic policies that favor the few over the many.

And yet, to wish away the resentments of White Americans, to label them as misguided or even racist, without recognizing they are grounded in legitimate concerns – this too widens the racial divide, and blocks the path to understanding.

This is where we are right now.

It's a racial stalemate we've been stuck in for years.

Contrary to the claims of some of my critics, Black and White, I have never been so naive as to believe that we can get beyond our racial divisions in a single election cycle, or with a single candidacy – particularly a candidacy as imperfect as my own.

But I have asserted a firm conviction – a conviction rooted in my faith in God and my faith in the American people – that working together we can move beyond some of our old racial wounds, and that in fact we have no choice is we are to continue on the path of a more perfect union.

For the African-American community, that path means embracing the burdens of our past without becoming victims of our past. It means continuing to insist on a full measure of justice in every aspect of American life.

But it also means binding our particular grievances – for better health care, and better schools, and better jobs - to the larger aspirations of all Americans -- the White woman struggling to break the glass ceiling, the White man whose been laid off, the immigrant trying to feed his family.

And it means taking full responsibility for own lives – by demanding more from our fathers, and spending more time with our children, and reading to them, and teaching them that while they may face challenges and discrimination in their own lives, they must never succumb to despair or cynicism; they must always believe that they can write their own destiny.

Ironically, this quintessentially American – and yes, conservative – notion of self-help found frequent expression in Reverend Wright's sermons.

But what my former pastor too often failed to understand is that embarking on a program of self-help also requires a belief that society can change.

The profound mistake of Reverend Wright's sermons is not that he spoke about racism in our society.

It's that he spoke as if our society was static; as if no progress has been made; as if this country – a country that has made it possible for one of his own members to run for the highest office in the land and build a coalition of white and Black; Latino and Asian, rich and poor, young and old -- is still irrevocably bound to a tragic past.

But what we know -- what we have seen – is that America can change.

That is true genius of this nation.

What we have already achieved gives us hope – the audacity to hope – for what we can and must achieve tomorrow.

In the White community, the path to a more perfect union means acknowledging that what ails the African-American community does not just exist in the minds of Black people; that the legacy of discrimination - and current incidents of discrimination, while less overt than in the past - are real and must be addressed.

Not just with words, but with deeds – by investing in our schools and our communities; by enforcing our civil rights laws and ensuring fairness in our criminal justice system; by providing this generation with ladders of opportunity that were unavailable for previous generations.

It requires all Americans to realize that your dreams do not have to come at the expense of my dreams; that investing in the health, welfare, and education of Black and Brown and White children will ultimately help all of America prosper.

In the end, then, what is called for is nothing more, and nothing less, than what all the world's great religions demand – that we do unto others as we would have them do unto us.

Let us be our brother's keeper, Scripture tells us.

Let us be our sister's keeper.

Let us find that common stake we all have in one another, and let our politics reflect that spirit as well.

For we have a choice in this country. We can accept a politics that breeds division, and conflict, and cynicism. We can tackle race only as spectacle – as we did in the OJ trial – or in the wake of tragedy, as we did in the aftermath of Katrina - or as fodder for the nightly news.

We can play Reverend Wright's sermons on every channel, every day and talk about them from now until the election, and make the only question in this campaign whether or not the American people think that I somehow believe or sympathize with his most offensive words.

We can pounce on some gaffe by a Hillary supporter as evidence that she's playing the race card, or we can speculate on whether White men will all flock to John McCain in the general election regardless of his policies.

We can do that.

But if we do, I can tell you that in the next election, we'll be talking about some other distraction.

And then another one.

And nothing will change.

That is one option.

Or, at this moment, in this election, we can come together and say, "Not this time."

This time we want to talk about the crumbling schools that are stealing the future of Black children and White children and Asian children and Hispanic children and Native American children.

This time we want to reject the cynicism that tells us that these kids can't learn; that those kids who don't look like us are somebody else's problem.

The children of America are not those kids, they are our kids, and we will not let them fall behind in a 21st century economy.

Not this time.

This time we want to talk about how the lines in the Emergency Room are filled with Whites and Blacks and Hispanics who do not have health care; who don't have the power on their own to overcome the special interests in Washington, but who can take them on if we do it together.

This time we want to talk about the shuttered mills that once provided a decent life for men and women of every race, and the homes for sale that once belonged to Americans from every religion, every region, every walk of life.

This time we want to talk about the fact that the real problem is not that someone who doesn't look like you might take your job; it's that the corporation you work for will ship it overseas for nothing more than a profit. This time we want to talk about the men and women of every color and creed who serve together, and fight together, and bleed together under the same proud flag.

We want to talk about how to bring them home from a war that never should've been authorized and never should've been waged, and we want to talk about how we'll show our patriotism by caring for them, and their families, and giving them the benefits they have earned.

I would not be running for President if I didn't believe with all my heart that this is what the vast majority of Americans want for this country. This union may never be perfect, but generation after generation has shown that it can always be perfected.

And today, whenever I find myself feeling doubtful or cynical about this possibility, what gives me the most hope is the next generation – the young people whose attitudes and beliefs and openness to change have already made history in this election.

There is one story in particularly that I'd like to leave you with today – a story I told when I had the great honor of speaking on Dr. King's birthday at his home church, Ebenezer Baptist, in Atlanta.

There is a young, twenty-three year old White woman named Ashley Baia who organized for our campaign in Florence, South Carolina. She had been working to organize a mostly African-American community since the beginning of this campaign, and one day she was at a roundtable discussion where everyone went around telling their story and why they were there.

And Ashley said that when she was nine years old, her mother got cancer.

And because she had to miss days of work, she was let go and lost her health care.

They had to file for bankruptcy, and that's when Ashley decided that she had to do something to help her mom.

She knew that food was one of their most expensive costs, and so Ashley convinced her mother that what she really liked and really wanted to eat more than anything else was mustard and relish sandwiches. Because that was the cheapest way to eat.

She did this for a year until her mom got better, and she told everyone at the roundtable that the reason she joined our campaign was so that she could help the millions of other children in the country who want and need to help their parents too.

Now Ashley might have made a different choice.

Perhaps somebody told her along the way that the source of her mother's problems were Blacks who were on welfare and too lazy to work, or Hispanics who were coming into the country illegally.

But she didn't. She sought out allies in her fight against injustice.

Anyway, Ashley finishes her story and then goes around the room and asks everyone else why they're supporting the campaign. They all have different stories and reasons.

Many bring up a specific issue.

And finally they come to this elderly Black man who's been sitting there quietly the entire time.

And Ashley asks him why he's there.

And he does not bring up a specific issue. He does not say health care or the economy. He does not say education or the war. He does not say that he was there because of Barack Obama.

He simply says to everyone in the room, "I am here because of Ashley." "I'm here because of Ashley."

By itself, that single moment of recognition between that young White girl and that old Black man is not enough.

It is not enough to give health care to the sick, or jobs to the jobless, or education to our children.

But it is where we start. It is where our union grows stronger.

And as so many generations have come to realize over the course of the two-hundred and twenty one years since a band of patriots signed that document in Philadelphia, that is where the perfection begins.

National Security - Senator Barack Obama's Analysis

Five years ago today, President George W. Bush launched a war that should never have been authorized based on faulty premises and bad intelligence.

This war has now lasted longer than World War I, World War II, or the Civil War.

Nearly four thousand Americans have given their lives. Thousands more have been wounded. Even under the best-case scenarios, this war will cost American taxpayers well over a trillion dollars.

And where are we for all of this sacrifice?

We are less safe and less able to shape events abroad. We are divided at home, and our alliances around the world have been strained. The threats of a new century have roiled the waters of peace and stability, and yet America remains anchored in Iraq.

I am running for President because it's time to turn the page on a failed ideology and a fundamentally flawed political strategy, so that we can make pragmatic judgments to keep our country safe.

That's what I did when I stood up and opposed this war from the start and said that we needed to finish the fight against al Qaeda. And that's what I'll do as President of the United States.

Senator Clinton says that she and Senator McCain have passed a "Commander-in-Chief test" -- not because of the judgments they've made, but because of the years they've spent in Washington.

She made a similar argument when she said her vote for war was based on her experience at both ends of Pennsylvania Avenue.

But here is the stark reality: there is a security gap in this country -- a gap between the rhetoric of those who claim to be tough on national security, and the reality of growing insecurity caused by their decisions.

It is time to have a debate with Senator McCain about the future of our national security. And the way to win that debate and keep America safe is to offer a clear contrast -- a clean break from the failed policies and politics of the past.

Nowhere is that break more badly needed than in Iraq.

The judgment that matters most on Iraq -- and on any decision to deploy military force -- is the judgment made first.

If you believe we are fighting the right war, then the problems we face are purely tactical in nature. That is what Senator McCain wants to discuss -- tactics. What he and the Administration have failed to present is an overarching strategy: how the war in Iraq enhances our long-term security, or will in the future.

That's why this Administration cannot answer the simple question posed by Senator John Warner in hearings last year: Are we safer because of this war? And that is why Senator McCain can argue -- as he did last year -- that we couldn't leave Iraq because violence was up, and then argue this year that we can't leave Iraq because violence is down.

When you have no overarching strategy, there is no clear definition of success.

Success comes to be defined as the ability to maintain a flawed policy indefinitely. Here is the truth: fighting a war without end will not force the Iraqis to take responsibility for their own future. And fighting in a war without end will not make the American people safer.

When I am Commander-in-Chief, I will set a new goal on Day One: I will end this war. Not because politics compels it. Not because our troops cannot bear the burden -- as heavy as it is. But because it is the right thing to do for our national security, and it will ultimately make us safer.

Thank you Senator Obama for adding thought to chaos to this drama about Rev. Dr. Jeremiah Wright. You have the courage to not distance yourself from your pastor, and the right to agree or disagree with what he said.

Our rights are gone.

If serving in the United States Marines does not give one the right to free speech in America, then nobody has it anymore. Am I the only one who finds that sad?

Maybe I could understand the uproar if Rev. Dr. Wright had told one untruth in his sermons.

Rev. Dr. Wright should not have censored his emotions after 9/11. He said what was on many minds from all races. 9/11 was an inside job and what our government has been doing to other nations, they did to us. Rev. Dr. Wright, like many of the rest of us, will not sit quietly in the back and be silent on the issue so the media can ignore the call for new 9/11 hearings.

The Willie Nelson Peace Research Institute published a webeo of Mark Twain's THE WAR PRAYER. Reverend Wright seems like the guest speaker in the church.

Is it not a sin to murder innocent people in other countries in order for us to feel safe? How can we say it's o.k. to murder-sin in the name of government, but for hemp, you can get 7 years?

Did America blink after dropping bombs, some very big, some very many, some big and many on people who never did us any harm? We're suppose to have the right to do that karma free?

As a nation, America is in trouble. We have been integrated into a burning house and it is our responsibility to speak truth. It's the only way to put out the fires. If America is ever to be blessed again, we must first atone, or as Dennis Kucinich said at an earlier debate, repair the damage done. Together we can do it and build a solid world.

Senators Clinton And McCain's 9/11 calls? How'd they do?

Senator Clinton has the nerve to talk about a 3 am call. How did Senators Clinton and McCain answer the 9/11 call? Let’s look at this based on results.

Here’s a few of my question about their response.

1. Was America adequately protected from attack on 9/11/01 when they were both in the senate, responsible for funding national defense?

2. When the planes hit, was there an (underground) evacuation plan in place to get people to safety? The senate could mandate cities have evacuation plans that are practiced like fire drills. One security sweep through the subways and people could have been evacuated safely.

3. Were the first responders and neighborhood residents given any protective tools to reduce toxic exposure? Were they given food or water or just had to fend for themselves?

4. When the EPA lied about the obvious dangers in the dust on 9/13, did they use their common sense and call her a liar? Did they tell people to get out of there?

5. Have they delivered reparations checks or medical care for people exposed to the toxic dust, or criminal charges for those who lied and put so many in danger with chronic exposure to known carcinogens?

6. Have they made any calls for a citizens or even a senate investigation into 9/11?

7. Did New York ever get cleaned up from the toxic WTC debris?

I’ve been stunned for years at both Senators Clinton and McCain’s response to 9/11.

Their support of the people who lied to New Yorkers exposed, that the air was safe to breathe and the water safe to drink, disqualifies them, in my opinion, to assume the position of President.
As sitting members of the US Senate they provided inadequate defense for our nation. All that money for the Department of Defense and nobody factored in the possible impact of scheduled annual war games on national defense. It’s o.k. with them that our nation is unprotected for a spell each year. All that money and they couldn’t hire temps to protect the nation while the workers went on games?

Like in New Orleans years later, there are no adequate survival plans in place when a national emergency happens.

The office of senator gives them media access, yet there were no calls for an immediate evacuation or protective gear.

They did not call the head of the EPA a liar at the time when she said the air was safe to breathe and the water safe to drink, when it could have done some good.

Senator Clinton’s 9/11 medical strategy of study the problem rather than do something about it is a horror. The WTC Registry should have been hooked up with medical care and disease prevention tips. We already have volumes of information on exposure to the list of chemicals that went airborne. Treatment and healing information, not just study, is what’s required.

Recently, sick first responders had to march on Washington in an effort to get some help. Isn’t that why they sent her to DC in the first place?

Senator McCain’s office, when asked to help those exposed, was it was Senator Clinton’s jurisdiction. Wasn’t he elected to a national office?

Given how they protected those in the NY/NJ/CT area exposed to WTC dust, please don’t give them responsibility for the nation.

In March and in April I voted for emergency spending legislation that would have fully funded our troops in Iraq, but also changed their mission to a sound one. That mission would have taken our troops out of the middle of a civil war, and put them into a support role, training Iraqi soldiers and police, fighting al Qaeda, and protecting our troops.

The President will not agree to that.

As a matter of fact, the President won't agree to any change in strategy in Iraq, and that is more than a shame for the American people; it is a tragedy.

It doesn't seem to matter how many Americans die in Iraq, how many funerals we have here at home, or what the American people think. The President won't budge.

This new bill on Iraq keeps the status quo. With a few frills around the outside, a few reports, a few words about benchmarks. While our troops die.

I understand why this particular legislation is before us today. It's because this President wants to continue his one man show in Iraq. The President doesn't respect this Congress or the American people when it comes to Iraq. He wants to brush us all off like some annoying spot on his jacket.

We have lost 3,427 American soldiers in Iraq. Of those, 731 (21%) have been from California or based in California. There are 25,549 American soldiers wounded.

And today, after several days of worrying and praying, we received the tragic news of the death of Private Joseph J. Anzack JR., 20 years old, of Torrance, California, who was abducted during a deadly ambush south of Baghdad almost two weeks ago.

One member of his platoon, Spc. Daniel Seitz, summed it up this way to the Associated Press: "It just angers me that it's just another friend I've got to lose and deal with, because I've already lost 13 friends since I've been here, and I don't know if I can take any more of this."

And he shouldn't have to. But with this bill, he will.

The first half of this year has already been deadlier than any six-month period since the war began more than four years ago.

In this month alone, 83 U.S. Service members have already been killed in Iraq.

Let me be clear, there are many things in this bill that I strongly support--many provisions that I actually fought for, for our troops, for our veterans, for our farmers, and for the victims of Hurricane Katrina--but I must take a stand against this Iraq war, and therefore I will vote no on this emergency spending bill.

Together, we will end this war. We may not have won yesterday's vote, and I'm very disappointed that we didn't, but with your help, that day is coming soon.

Crimes as big as the president and his crew have done require words greater than what is in the dictionary. So I am compelled to put this word out there. The president is the poster child.

The word "bodiculous" is not in the dictionary so I'll define it. When something is both bogus and ridiculous it's bodiculous.

Bogus is the fact that both the 2000 and the 2004 elections were stolen. Bush and his band of Nazis were not elected but selected by a source other than the American People. What the !@#$. Al Gore and John Kerry both won the elections by the Will of the People. I still don't understand in truth why that man is even in the White House. If he wasn't there we'd have a full scale global warming strategy in place and active. Instead we get higher toxic energy prices and melting polar ice caps. How’s the weather by you?

Ridiculous is the current administration's style: 9/11 was an inside job, Katrina's lack of response, war for oil, the slaughter of hundreds of thousands of innocent people in Iraq and other places, not counting the unemployed as proof of low unemployment, most children being left behind in their education, poisoned food supply, global warming and keeping the solution (hemp) illegal, chemtrails ...it’s a long list and I’m sure there’s more that we don’t even have a clue about, yet.

The Bush presidency is the most bodiculous thing that has ever happen in this country. He's taken America from the land of the free and the home of the brave to the land of the watched and the home of the scared. We've got to turn this around.

Bush needs to quit or be impeached. Like Nixon before him, he should do it before he's arrested for treason. Maybe he can go with his friends at Halliburton. I'm sure they have room for the best little oil pimp from Texas. He's made them so much money while not caring who had to die for them to get paid. He even lied in the State Of The Union address.

George Bush is not only the worst president ever, he is the most bodiculous person in the world.

"Governor, thank you. President Steger, thank you very much. Students, and faculty, and staff, and grieving family members, and members of this really extraordinary place.

Laura and I have come to Blacksburg today with hearts full of sorrow. This is a day of mourning for the Virginia Tech community — and it is a day of sadness for our entire nation. We've come to express our sympathy. In this time of anguish, I hope you know that people all over this country are thinking about you, and asking God to provide comfort for all who have been affected.

Yesterday began like any other day. Students woke up, and they grabbed their backpacks and they headed for class. And soon the day took a dark turn, with students and faculty barricading themselves in classrooms and dormitories — confused, terrified, and deeply worried. By the end of the morning, it was the worst day of violence on a college campus in American history — and for many of you here today, it was the worst day of your lives.

It's impossible to make sense of such violence and suffering. Those whose lives were taken did nothing to deserve their fate. They were simply in the wrong place at the wrong time. Now they're gone — and they leave behind grieving families, and grieving classmates, and a grieving nation.

In such times as this, we look for sources of strength to sustain us. And in this moment of loss, you're finding these sources everywhere around you. These sources of strength are in this community, this college community. You have a compassionate and resilient community here at Virginia Tech. Even as yesterday's events were still unfolding, members of this community found each other; you came together in dorm rooms and dining halls and on blogs. One recent graduate wrote this: "I don't know most of you guys, but we're all Hokies, which means we're family. To all of you who are okay, I'm happy for that. For those of you who are in pain or have lost someone close to you, I'm sure you can call on any one of us and have help any time you need it."

These sources of strength are with your loved ones. For many of you, your first instinct was to call home and let your moms and dads know that you were okay. Others took on the terrible duty of calling the relatives of a classmate or a colleague who had been wounded or lost. I know many of you feel awfully far away from people you lean on and people you count on during difficult times. But as a dad, I can assure you, a parent's love is never far from their child's heart. And as you draw closer to your own families in the coming days, I ask you to reach out to those who ache for sons and daughters who will never come home.

These sources of strength are also in the faith that sustains so many of us. Across the town of Blacksburg and in towns all across America, houses of worship from every faith have opened their doors and have lifted you up in prayer. People who have never met you are praying for you; they're praying for your friends who have fallen and who are injured. There's a power in these prayers, real power. In times like this, we can find comfort in the grace and guidance of a loving God. As the Scriptures tell us, "Don't be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good."

And on this terrible day of mourning, it's hard to imagine that a time will come when life at Virginia Tech will return to normal. But such a day will come. And when it does, you will always remember the friends and teachers who were lost yesterday, and the time you shared with them, and the lives they hoped to lead. May God bless you. 5 Million Emails Deleted? Subpoena Karl Rove!

Karl Rove has been in charge of everything political in the Bush White House since he stole the 2000 election in Florida.

So when the White House asked the RNC to create email accounts for key White House political operatives, who approved that decision? Karl Rove.

And when the White House deleted 5 million emails, who approved that decision? Karl Rove.
And when all of Karl Rove's emails before 2005 disappeared, who hit the delete key? Karl Rove.
It's time for Congress to subpoena Karl Rove - along with every email he ever wrote or received, either using his White House account or RNC accounts or personal accounts.

Last January, I watched President Bush deliver the State of the Union address.

As the war in Iraq continued and ordinary people struggled to make ends meet, scores of Republicans at every level of government were removed from office by the voters, every single Democrat running for reelection as a Senator, Governor, or Representative was reelected -- every single one.

It didn't happen by accident. It happened by building a strong opposition party with a clear message of change. Most importantly, it happened by building the Democratic Party organization in places it had never been before.

One group of unsung heroes made it happen. They are the nearly 35,000 members of the Democracy Bonds community.

There's another thing I want you to be aware of as your and your neighbors head to the polls today.

There have already been widespread reports of voter suppression by Republican operatives, ranging from apparently legal harassment of Democratic voters to potentially illegal efforts to keep voters away from the voting booth.

This isn't new for Republicans. It's a cynical art that the Republican machine has refined for years, and each election brings new variations on oldtactics that target minorities and minority-heavy areas.

Here's what you need to know:

1) If you're a registered voter, do not leave your polling location without voting. Every registered voter is entitled to cast a provisional ballot.

2) If you're in line before the poll's closing time, you are entitled to vote.

Urgent Letter from Dennis Kucinich about Bush Administration Plans for a US War vs. Iran

Dear Friends,

The Bush Administration is preparing for war against Iran, using an almost identical drumbeat of weapons of mass destruction, imminent threat, alleged links to Al Queda, and even linking Iran with a future 911.

In the past few months reports have been published in Newsweek, ABC News and GQ Magazine that indicate the US is recruiting members of paramilitary groups to destabilize Iran through violence. The New Yorker magazine and the Guardian have written that US has already deployed military inside Iran. The latest issue of Time writes of plans for a naval blockade of Iran at the Port of Hormuz, through which 40% of the world's oil supply passes. Other news reports have claimed that an air strike, using a variety of bombs including bunker busters to be dropped on over 1,000 targets, including nuclear facilities. This could obviously result in a great long term humanitarian and environmental disaster.

Earlier this year, I demanded congressional hearings on Iran and was able to secure the promise of a classified briefing from the Department of Defense, the State Department and the CIA. When the briefing was held, the Department of Defense and the State Department refused to show and are continuing to block any congressional inquiry into plans to attack Iran.

Just this past week, the International Atomic Energy Agency called "erroneous, misleading and unsubstantiated" statements relating to Iran's nuclear program which came from a staff report of the House Intelligence committee. Other intelligence officials have claimed over a dozen distortions in the report which, among other things, said Iran is producing weapons grade uranium. The Washington Post wrote: "The IAEA called that 'incorrect' noting that weapons grade uranium is enriched to a level of 90 percent or more. Iran has enriched uranium to 3.5% under IAEA monitoring."

I have demanded that the Government Oversight subcommittee on National Security and International Relations, of which I am the ranking Democrat, hold hearings to determine how in the world the Director of National Intelligence, John Negroponte, viewed the report without correcting the obvious inaccuracies before it was published. Once again a case for war is being built on lies.

You will recall that four and a half years ago I warned this nation about the deception behind the build up to war against Iraq. Everything I said then turned out to be 100% right. I led 125 Democrats in opposing the Iraq war resolution in March of 2003. The very same people who brought us Iraq in 2003 are getting ready to bring us a war against Iran.

With your help, I will lead the way to challenge the Bush Administration's march to war against Iran. Please support my campaign for re-election with a generous donation to help continue my work in the Congress. We Are The Troops

Message From John Kerry, the last man voted president by the people of the United States.

"I remember when I was back home from Vietnam and veterans were speaking out against the Vietnam war policy, someone yelled at the vets: "You should support the troops." One of those veterans said simply: "Lady, we are the troops."

With a war in Iraq gone horribly wrong and a Republican attack machine determined to smear those who speak out, there's nothing more important this fall than electing veterans to Congress who can speak out about Iraq with a special moral authority.

And man, do we need them. Recently, John "Randy" Kuhl, a Republican incumbent House member from New York, returned from a visit to Iraq. He reported that things were going well. In fact, he says he almost forgot he was in a war zone.

I can't tell you whether that hard-to-believe comment reflects his disconnect with reality or his refusal to level with the people he represents. But, I can tell you this: No one who knows what it really means to be in a war zone would talk like that.

Howard Dean on Michael Hayden's CIA Nomination

"As the director of the National Security Agency, Michael Hayden oversaw the creation of the massive domestic spying program revealed last week. Now George Bush wants him to run the CIA.

After 5/18/06's hearings, it's obvious that Hayden's involvement in the NSA's domestic spying program disqualifies him from heading the CIA. His answers to questions from Congress and from the press have been evasive at best and downright false at worst. The Bush administration's chronic pattern of misleading the American people about the full extent of its domestic spying activities was on full display yesterday, and the American people deserve better.

We can't be fooled by the rhetoric from the Republicans: domestic spying is not a partisan issue. Democrats will do what it takes to keep America safe, and support tracking down al-Qaeda and preventing future attacks, but we want the President to follow the law. Domestic spying is one more Bush-imposed chink in the constitutional armor that shields Americans' fundamental rights from over-reaching by the government.

When the Senators meet to decide on Hayden's confirmation, they must hear the voices of their constituents. We want to deliver the voices of 100,000 Americans who oppose this nomination.

One general after another demanding Rumsfeld's resignation. More citizens every day joining in support of our May 15 deadline for Iraqi leaders to stop their squabbling and form a government.

It's time for Iraq's leaders to seize the opportunity for democracy in Iraq that our troops are sacrificing every day to create. If Iraq's leaders can't move past their infighting and endless delays to form a new government by May 15, we should immediately withdraw all of our troops. If they meet the May 15 deadline, we'll bring America's combat troops home by the end of the year and put the future of democracy in Iraq where it belongs -- in the hands of the Iraqi people.

Freedom Of Information Act Request - NSA/Spy On Citizens

Shortly after it was revealed that the Bush Administration had been using the National Security Agency to spy on American citizens without oversight by any court, Governor Dean sent an email asking you to join him in signing a Freedom of Information Act request demanding that the White House release Justice Department memos outlining the supposed authority for this illegal program.

The response to this request was overwhelming, and new signers came in daily for the past two weeks.

We spent the past few days printing all 160,000 requests, boxed them up, and DNC General Counsel Joe Sandler, blogger Tim Tagaris and I drove downtown to the Department of Justice and formally submitted them. Joe did the talking and I took the pictures -- you can click here to see them.

The Justice Department has to respond within 20 days. But we may hear from them sooner -- a judge on the secret Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court, which exists to provide a crucial check on executive power while allowing maximum flexibility to our intelligence services, has demanded the administration explain the supposed legal authority for this domestic spying program. The hearing will take place on Monday.

Your 160,000 requests demand exactly the same information. This gets to the core of the domestic spying scandal: we need to know what authority this administration thinks it has to conduct a program like this not only to get to the bottom of this illegal activity, but to understand just what this administration thinks it can and cannot do. Reports suggest that the vague assertion of authority to spy on Americans may be part of a larger claim of blanket authority to conduct all kinds of blatantly illegal activity - from improper detentions to torture.

George Bush himself said on the campaign trail in 2004 that any wiretap "requires a court order". But he recently admitted that years before that statement, he had personally directed our intelligence agencies to conduct surveillance on Americans without going to any court for a warrant - even though secret warrants could be obtained up to 3 days after the surveillance had begun.

It's clear that our Constitution and the rule of law mean very little to this president -- and we've seen this kind of secrecy and abuse of power before. The DNC Communications team put together a short video that looks at George Bush's Nixon-like justification for the actions he ordered.

Back in 1755, Benjamin Franklin said, "Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety."

This administration, whose strategy for fighting terror involves unnecessary illegal wiretaps on Americans, seems to have given us exactly what Franklin predicted. Democrats will protect our nations liberty and security.

Watergate II?

Watergate was the Republican Party spying on the Democratic Party. Now, the president is spying on citizens and telling us it's O.K. Is this Watergate II?

Head of the DNC, Howard Dean, sent this email on the president syping on US citizens.

"By now you have probably heard the news that George Bush is using the National Security Agency to conduct surveillance on American citizens without the consent of any court. After initially refusing to confirm the story, the President has admitted to personally overseeing this domestic spying program for years and he says he intends to continue the program.

These actions explicitly violate a law designed to protect US citizens. But the administration says that other laws somehow allow for this unprecedented use of a foreign intelligence agency to spy on Americans right here in the United States. According to reports, political appointees in the Justice Department's Office of Legal Counsel wrote still-classified legal opinions laying out the supposed justification for this program.

I have asked our General Counsel to draft a Freedom of Information Act request for the relevant legal opinions and memos written by that office. Since the program's existence is no longer a secret, these memos should be released -- Americans deserve to know exactly what authority this administration believes it has.

This extra-legal activity is even more disturbing because it is unnecessary -- the administration already has access to a secret Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court. That court was created precisely to provide speedy, secure judicial review to the actions of our intelligence agencies.

To allow authorities act as quickly as possible, officials can even apply for a retroactive warrant days after the surveillance has already begun. Secret warrants have been approved over 19,000 times -- only five applications were rejected in nearly thirty years. The court, which regularly acts within hours, is hardly a roadblock, but it prevents abuse by providing the oversight required by our system of checks and balances.

This administration must demonstrate clearly what legal authority allows it to disregard criminal prohibitions on unilateral domestic spying. Sign on to the request now -- it will be delivered on Thursday:

In an interview on Monday, Attorney General Alberto Gonzalez admitted that the administration asked certain Members of Congress about getting a new law to allow spying on Americans without a warrant. Realizing that even a Republican-controlled Congress wouldn't authorize such a measure, they decided to manipulate current law and proceed with the program anyway.

Manipulation of a law like this is dangerous. The same Office of Legal Counsel used vague assertions of sweeping authority in the infamous torture memos. The victim of this reasoning is the rule of law itself -- when this administration asserts sweeping authority to step over any line of legality, it asserts that there are no lines at all.

Does this administration believe there are any lines it can't cross? Americans deserve to know. Join our Freedom of Information Act request now:

Some Republicans will try to pretend that this is just another political fight. But Americans of every political viewpoint are rightfully disturbed by this extra-legal activity. The Republican chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, Arlen Specter, shocked by the report of this activity, promised to convene hearings in January.

Even Bob Barr, who was one of the most conservative members of Congress and the first member to file articles of impeachment against President Clinton, said:

"What's wrong with it is several-fold. One, it's bad policy for our government to be spying on American citizens through the National Security Agency. Secondly, it's bad to be spying on Americans without court oversight. And thirdly, it's bad to be spying on Americans apparently in violation of federal laws against doing it without court order."

We need to know whether George Bush went beyond the limits of the law -- and whether he and his administration believe that there are any limits at all. Please join this important request:

Even after the press found out about these actions, the administration tried to cover up its existence. According to Newsweek, George Bush summoned the publisher and executive editor of the New York Times to the Oval Office to try to stop them from running the story of these illegal activities.

We have seen this kind of arrogance of power before.

Richard Nixon once said in an interview that, "if the president does it, it can't be illegal."

He found out that wasn't true. This administration may need a reminder.

1. George Bush did not win the last election either.

The Ohio vote was proven corrupt to congress by Congress people Stephanie Tubbs Jones, Maxine Waters, John Conyers, Cynthia McKinney, Jesse Jackson Jr., Major Owens and others in January 2005. If you have not seen their proof, please click here to download and read the report.

2. The World Trade Center did not fall over or burn down.

It was pulverized, as in controlled demolition. The hole in the Pentagon does not match the size of the plane it was reported to have been hit by.

3. There were no weapons of mass destruction in Iraq and we went to war on a lie.

Now is the time for all good people to come to the aid of their party.

Howard Dean Supports Congressman Jack Murtha

Thousands of people have stepped up to challenge Republican leaders in their own backyard when they attack our veterans.

I saw the video of Republican Jean Schmidt calling decorated combat veteran and Democratic Congressman Jack Murtha a coward. I couldn't believe what I heard.

Immediately after her attack, you can hear something else on that tape. That is the House Democrats shouting her down and calling her to account for the attack. They ultimately forced her to retract her words.

We're putting billboards up in the hometown of any Republican leader trying to distract from their failed leadership by attacking a veteran's service.

The first target is Jean Schmidt -- and there are less the 24 hours left to make a contribution to put a billboard up right outside her district office in Portsmouth, Ohio. Will you contribute to kick start this effort?

Jean Schmidt is only the latest Republican leader to cross this line of civility and respect for our veterans -- it's time to say enough is enough.

Republican leaders use these tactics to distract people from the simple fact that they have lost credibility on national security and foreign policy.

They abandoned the hunt for Osama bin Laden. They manipulated intelligence to sell the war in Iraq, and failed to plan adequately for the war before it started. They destroyed the moral authority America built up over five decades of Democratic and Republican presidents, and they alienated the universal support for our cause after September 11th.

This week millions of Americans fled Hurricane Katrina. Across the South families abandoned their homes and businesses, not knowing what would be there when they returned.

Many stayed behind and suffered devastating loss and injuries -- nearly a hundred have died that we know of, and hundreds of thousands need our help.

America is at its best when we realize that we are one community -- that we're all in this together. That means that each one of us has the responsibility to do what we can to help the relief effort.

The Red Cross is a great place to start.

They are already moving people and resources into the region to help. Donations will provide clean water, food, and shelter for disaster victims. The Red Cross web site also has important information for victims and their relatives across the country.

Many local Red Cross chapters are organizing volunteers to travel to affected areas -- doctors and nurses to provide medical care, workers to build shelters, first responders to assist in rescue operations.

You can find your local chapter to learn what you can do.

We are still learning the full story of the devastation, but there is no time to wait.

The Lake Havasu City Recall Election

I got my ballot for the upcoming September 13, 2005 recall election here in Lake Havasu City, AZ.

Talk about the system is designed to protect the incumbent. On the ballot we have statements by those in office about why they think they should stay, and nothing on the folks who are challenging them other than their names.

Challengers include:

Mayor - Harvey Jackson
Mayor - Chris Gravelle
Council Member - Bruce Hinman
Council Member - Margaret Nyberg
Council Member - Allan Sturtevant

I'm still researching the personalities and their accomplishments/integrity, so if anyone has anything to add, please post it here. Shortly I'll have more info.

As a person who has lived here since 2000, I can assure my neighbors that we can do much better than we have in the past.

We have to look forward to explosive growth in this town and put in place systems that can grow with us. Many people on all coasts are planning on moving in land. An iceberg the size of Long Island, NY broke off in January and is melting, costal storms are a problem, WTC Illness is real. Lake Havasu City is a great alternative to coastal dramas. Lake Havasu City offers her beautiful landscape, clean environment, no nuclear plants close by, and a nice party vibe in town.

Yet, medicine in this town sucks. As of April this year we don't even have a respirator at the local medical center. The sewers are behind schedule. There is only one road in and out of town. If there is an emergency evacuation plan in place in case the volcano fields blow (both Mt. St. Helen and Yellowstone are active) I've never heard about it. We can and must do better than we have in the past.

Maybe new leadership is the way. Maybe current leadership has already addressed those issues (like the mayor's success of going and getting help from Sen Kyl for the sewers - still waiting to see if it does any good - or the new mall being planned in town - I miss Saks Fifth Avenue :) ).

What does it say about the Republican leadership that they're putting a right-wing extremist at the center of their effort to keep control of the Senate? It says that their goal isn't just to hold on to power, but to drag America away from mainstream values and the issues that matter to ordinary Americans.

Consider what's at stake in just Democrat Bob Casey's race against Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum. Santorum is totally out of touch with the reality facing American families and totally out of touch with mainstream American values. And yet he has become the mainstream within the Republican Party:

Santorum believes millions of people are uninsured because, "some people don't want [insurance] - like the Amish." [Harrisburg Patriot, 6/10/97]

Santorum believes child care is a "Washington" issue that ordinary Americans don't care about. [Congressional Quarterly, 3/9/05]

He said that the environmental movement's days are numbered and that environmentalism is against nature. [Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, 4/24/95]

He believes in privatizing Social Security. [Congressional Record, S3231, 4/5/05]

Santorum thinks it's wrong to help single mothers earn a college degree. In his book, It Takes a Family, Santorum said that "The notion that college education is a cost-effective way to help poor, low-skill, unmarried mothers with high school diplomas or GEDs move up the economic ladder is just wrong." [It Takes a Family, pg. 138]

By the time the GOP wraps up its summer summit on Saturday afternoon, we need to have raised $500,000 to support our work to defeat extremists like Rick Santorum.

"Secretary of State Jan Brewer and other key Arizona leaders said Friday that they have agreed on a plan to carry out Proposition 200's requirement that voters show identification before casting ballots at the polls."

OH MY GOD! It is now illegal for me to vote where I live, in Arizona, because I don't have ID other than my birth certificate and my baptism certificate.

I've never been arrested, yet like a felon who has murdered people, I cannot vote because I don't carry papers in my homeland.

Who gives the state of Arizona the right to take away my vote?

I wrote the governor. I'm sure she'll get back to me (yeah, right). I'll post her response.
